I want to share Amanda's story with you, and if you've ever stood in front of your wardrobe pulling at clothes that don't fit anymore, this one is going to hit home.
Amanda is a mum who had spent the best part of a decade watching the scales go in the wrong direction. Since having her children about 10 years ago, the weight had gradually crept on. She had tried other programs. One worked for a month, then the weight came straight back. By the time she found us, she was sitting at 83.5kg and deeply unhappy about it.
The turning point came at a school reunion. Amanda ran into an old friend, Kat, and barely recognised her. Kat was glowing. She looked amazing. She was radiating confidence. When Amanda asked what she was doing, Kat said three words: "Slim by Nature."
Amanda joined the Facebook group and lurked for a few weeks, reading the posts, watching the before-and-afters, still not quite believing it. Then came Christmas and New Year, and like most of us, she decided she wasn't starting a detox in December. She enjoyed herself. The potato bake. The pavlova. A few champagnes. She's human.
But come January, looking at the holiday photos, she didn't like what she saw. She signed up for the 60 Day Body Slimming Detox and dove straight in.
What Amanda loved most? She could still eat. This wasn't a shake diet. This wasn't a starvation plan. She was eating real food three times a day and still losing weight. "100 grams of protein and 125 grams of vegetables or salad doesn't seem like much," she told me, "but you would be surprised at how much food that actually is. It fills you up."
Her meals became surprisingly enjoyable. In the mornings, she would have her oranges or grapefruit (she even tried grapefruit for the first time and didn't hate it). Lunch was a grilled chicken breast with a big salad dressed with just lemon juice and herbs. Dinner was where she discovered the magic. A piece of white fish seasoned with nothing more than chilli, garlic, ginger, and fresh shallots. She told me she realised she had been drowning her food in sauces for years, and once she stopped, "the food actually tastes amazing."
She even found a guilt-free blondies recipe on our blog that she couldn't believe was detox-friendly.
By day 22, Amanda had lost 6kg. Three weeks, six kilos. The results were coming so fast that she would step off the scales, step back on, and check again because she couldn't quite believe it. Her skin cleared up. She was falling asleep within 10 minutes of hitting the pillow, after years of lying awake for 40 minutes. Friends she hadn't seen since Christmas were stopping her on the street saying, "Wow, you look amazing. What are you doing? You have a glow about you."
But the moment that made Amanda happiest? Walking past her wardrobe and realising her clothes were baggy. Not tight. Not uncomfortable. Baggy. After years of things getting tighter and tighter, they were going the other way.
Amanda also conquered a habit she didn't even know she had: boredom eating. She used to graze on cheese, crackers, dips, and savoury nuts throughout the day. Now, when she feels peckish, she slices a lemon or lime into sparkling water, pours it into a fancy glass, and sits down with it like it's a cocktail. "It makes me feel special," she said, and I just love that.
Her advice to anyone on the fence? "Just do it. Don't question it. There's nothing to lose apart from weight."
